Sage 50 Error 1327: Fixing 'Invalid Drive' During Install

Sage 50 Error 1327 shows “Invalid Drive: [drive letter]” partway through installation or an update, and stops the process from completing.

Why this happens

• A Windows registry entry still points to a drive letter used during a previous install (a mapped network drive or USB drive) that isn’t currently connected
• A mapped network drive was disconnected, unmapped, or reassigned to a different letter after Sage 50 was first installed
• Leftover registry entries from an incomplete previous uninstall reference a drive that no longer exists
• The installer is being run without administrator rights, which can surface drive-mapping issues that would otherwise be handled silently

Steps to fix it

1. Note the exact drive letter shown in the error message.
2. Open File Explorer and check whether that drive currently exists on your system.
3. If it’s missing, temporarily reconnect a drive with that letter — remap a network drive to it, or plug in a USB drive using that letter — just long enough to get through the install, then disconnect it afterward.
4. Run the installer as Administrator (right-click the installer, “Run as administrator”) since permission issues can compound this error.
5. If it persists, the registry entry pointing to the invalid drive can be corrected directly, though this should be done carefully and ideally with a backup of the registry first.
6. As a last resort, fully uninstall Sage 50, clean up leftover installation folders and registry entries, and do a fresh install.

When to get help

Editing the Windows registry isn’t something to do casually, especially on a shared office computer or server. If you’re not comfortable with steps 5 or 6, or a clean reinstall still throws the same error, it’s worth having someone walk through it with you rather than repeating a failed install multiple times.
