QuickBooks Payroll Error PS077: Fixing a Subscription or Service Key Mismatch

Error PS077 (closely related to PS032) blocks payroll updates when QuickBooks can’t confirm your payroll subscription is valid and active.

Why this happens

• The service key stored in QuickBooks doesn’t match your actual payroll subscription
• The payroll subscription is inactive, expired, or the billing address on file doesn’t match
• Multiple company files are using the same service key incorrectly
• A recent QuickBooks update reset locally stored subscription info

Steps to fix it

1. Check your payroll subscription status via Employees → My Payroll Service → Account/Billing Information, confirming it shows Active.
2. Verify your service key: Employees → My Payroll Service → Manage Service Key, and confirm the key listed matches the company file you’re working in.
3. Update your billing information if it’s flagged as mismatched — an outdated card or address on the payroll account can trigger this.
4. Remove and re-add the service key if it looks correct but still fails — sometimes re-entering it forces QuickBooks to re-verify cleanly.
5. Restart QuickBooks and retry the payroll update once the subscription and service key are confirmed correct.
