Sage 50 Data Integrity Check: When and How to Run It

Sage 50’s Data Integrity Check (also called Data Verification) finds and repairs minor damage in your company data file — but it’s a repair tool, not a routine checkup, and it needs to be run carefully.

Why this happens

Company data can end up damaged from:

• Power outages or improper shutdowns while Sage 50 was writing data
• Hardware failures during storage or transmission
• Network interruptions while saving, especially in multi-user setups
• Software glitches or bugs
• Virus or malware activity affecting the data files

Steps to fix it

1. Back up your company data first — this is the single most important step, since the repair process can delete records it determines are unusable.
2. Contact Sage support before running Integrity Check on anything beyond minor issues, per Sage’s own guidance, since significant corruption may need a more careful recovery approach than the automated tool provides.
3. Go to Help > Customer Support and Service > Integrity Check (or File > Maintenance > Check Data, depending on your version).
4. Run Data Verification, selecting the tests relevant to the symptoms you’re seeing.
5. Review the generated log carefully — it lists every error found and every change or deletion made during the repair.
6. Restore from your backup if the repair doesn’t resolve the issue, deletes something you needed, or the process is interrupted partway through.

When to get help

Because this tool can permanently remove records it flags as unusable, it’s worth having someone experienced review what the integrity check log actually found before you consider the company file “fixed” — especially if the deleted records affected reports you rely on.
